Happy National Cat Day from our ever-elusive mountain lion (Felis concolor)! While there aren't any elk in Tahoe, our mountain lions' diet includes smaller prey such as rabbits, porcupines, and even coyotes, but primarily consists of deer. Tahoe’s deer migrate to lower elevations in the winter, and the lions track these migrations following them. When the deer return upslope in spring, the lions return as well. Unlike the deer, however, they prefer to keep their distance from humans and neighborhoods. With so much open space surrounding Tahoe’s developed areas, they still have a relatively easy time avoiding people—and biologists!

Dress your pet in their best Halloween costume and submit a photo of them on our website, or bring them in-store for a chance to win a frightfully fun grand prize! Two ways to submit your pet's costume entry:

1) On our website- submit a picture of your dressed-up pet below
2) Bring your pet in store- either our Donner Pass, Soaring Ranch or Incline Village locations. Ask for a manager so they can grab a photo!

Grand prize is a $50 Mountain Hardware gift card and a $50 donation to the Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe made in your name. Contest ends at 11:59PM on October 31st!
