On Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 10 am to 2 pm, California State Parks is hosting a free public event at Sugar Pine Point State Park to honor the 100th birthday of Lake Tahoe’s legendary historic speedboats, Mercury and Cherokee. Built in 1926, these two remarkable vessels represent a golden era of maritime craftsmanship and racing history on the lake. The event will feature fascinating historical presentations by park interpreters, hands-on activities for kids of all ages, and the exciting unveiling of a brand-new interpretive panel outside the South Boathouse.
