Thanks to the generosity of the community and our partners at the VC Women’s Ministry on Saturday 9/11 matched donations came to a total donation of $8,000 which was in turn donated to the El Dorado fire relief, Del Oro Salvation Army & Wildland Firefighters. We thank you in joining us to provide help to fire victims & injured firefighters.

The Tahoe Transportation District has found new funding sources for the purchase of the Old Elementary School lot in Incline Village. During their March 2021 meeting, the TTD board approved a purchase agreement with Washoe County School District for the property at 771 Southwood Boulevard, Incline Village, for the evaluation of a mobility hub, with the understanding that Washoe County would provide matching funds for the purchase.

Talk about 'thinking inside the box'! Just like ✨that✨ Fall has fallen and the Incline Spirits Barefoot Bar has been packed up for the season and will be stored in our secure lot until next summer. ???

NORTH LAKE TAHOE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT REMINDS RESIDENTS TO ‘LEARN THE SOUNDS OF FIRE SAFETY’ DURING FIRE PREVENTION WEEK
The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District (NLTFPD) is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®)—the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week for more than 90 years—to promote this year’s Fire Prevention WeekTM campaign, “Learn the Sounds of Fire SafetyTM.” This year’s campaign, October 3-9th, works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe.“What do the sounds mean? Is there a beep or a chirp coming out of your smoke or carbon monoxide alarm? Knowing the difference can save you, your home, and your family,” said Lorraine Carli, vice-president of outreach and advocacy at NFPA.

NLTFPD encourages all residents to embrace the 2021 Fire Prevention Week theme. “It’s important to learn the different sounds of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. When an alarm makes noise—a beeping sound or a chirping sound—you must take action!” said Jennifer Donohue, Fire Marshal. “Make sure everyone in the home understands the sounds of the alarms and knows how to respond. To learn the sounds of your specific smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, check the manufacturer’s instructions that came in the box, or search the brand and model online.”

NLTFPD wants to share safety tips to help you “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety”

A continuous set of three loud beeps—beep, beep, beep—means smoke or fire. Get out, call 9-1-1, and stay out.
A single chirp every 30 or 60 seconds means the battery is low and must be changed.
All smoke alarms must be replaced after 10 years.
Chirping that continues after the battery has been replaced means the alarm is at the end of its life and the unit must be replaced.
Make sure your smoke and CO alarms meet the needs of all your family members, including those with sensory or physical disabilities.
NLTFPD will be hosting station tours for our elementary school students next week focusing on home fire safety and the importance of recognizing the sounds of fire safety.

The open enrollment period for Medicare is here, and just around the corner for Covered California. Don't miss this opportunity to ensure your coverage for the coming year.
During open enrollment for Medicare, patients can sign up for or make changes to their existing Medicare Part D prescription plans, change to or from a Medicare Advantage Plan, and/or switch from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another.

Join the entire community for a 4-week virtual walk along the John Muir Trail from Yosemite to Sequoia National Park. Prizes will be awarded to the person who walks the most steps during October, as well as 2 winners drawn randomly for participants who average at least 10,000 steps per day! Our friends up the way at Village Church participated in the Incline September 25th cleanup. There were 14 participants out of the 30 that signed up. We found broken sleds, beer cans, capri suns and other waste items on the left side of Mt. Rose Hwy. Thank you to all who participated that day as well as those who make it a personal daily dedication. #KeepTahoeBlue

Later this month I have the honor of participating in a Chautauqua down in Boulder City, Nevada as Mark Twain alongside Erma Bombeck, Julia Childs and Will Rogers. What a treat, for they are a few of my heroes…
I like to quote Erma when delivering a commencement address, “Never confuse fame with greatness, fame is Madonna, greatness Helen Keller.” Erma’s lighthearted column ran in 900 newspapers, and in 1996 she published the best selling book, The Grass is Always Greener Over the Septic Tank.

30 volunteers picked up 6 yards (a dumpster) worth of litter from the Mount Rose Meadows to central Incline and Memorial Point. Our most common items found were sled pieces and beer cans. Our most unusual item was a set of crutches found in the bushes at Mt. Rose Meadows. Thankfully volunteers reported that all sites were generally clean and that they had to search to find litter. We hope to see you at our next Tahoe Blue Crew Clean Up.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency has awarded funding to seven critical transportation projects across the Tahoe Region that will reduce congestion, expand regional trails, provide free transit, support sustainable recreation and tourism, assist with Caldor Fire recovery work, improve lake clarity, and create climate resiliency, the agency announced Monday.

FLU VACCINES AVAILABLE
The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District (NLTFPD) will be offering flu vaccinations to individuals over the age of 8 beginning September 28, 2021, for as long as supplies last. Vaccines administered by NLTFPD will be offered at the Fire District’s main station located at 875 Tanager Street. Walk-ins are welcome. We ask that visitors please wear a face covering to receive a flu vaccination. Vaccines will not be available at the Crystal Bay or Mount Rose Stations. Each vaccine is $40.00, payable by cash, check or credit card. Please note, we do not take insurance. If you are a Medicare patient, consider visiting your primary healthcare provider, Incline Village Community Hospital, Village Pharmacy or Raley’s pharmacy as those locations accept insurance.
For your convenience, Fire District personnel are available to visit homes or businesses by appointment. There is no additional charge for this service; however, the $40.00 vaccine fee still applies. To make an appointment, please call 775-831-0351, ext. 0. Please note that the vaccines are only for individuals 8 years of age and older; we recommend younger children be taken to their pediatrician.
