Nevada Nordic is thrilled to report that we are ready for the 2021-22 season! A continued partnership with Nevada State Parks! Don’t be fooled by the construction at Spooner State Park. Nordic trails will be open as soon as there is adequate snow and community members can look forward to another year of Nordic skiing on 8k of beautiful trails. While Spooner State Park does charge for parking, Nordic skiing and snowshoeing are FREE! There are no additional fees. After months of behind-the-scenes work, we are happy to share what you can expect when you are ready to hit the trails this winter! Access to FREE CROSS COUNTRY SKIING TRAILS at our Mt. Rose Meadow location! ALL community members and visitors use the trails for FREE! 17k of groomed trails at our primary location in Mt. Rose Meadows! In addition to grooming the Old Mt. I’m not a numbers person, but sometimes numbers add up in such a way as to make an impression, and now that I’m slightly older than Smokey Bear, I figure I’d better start doing something socially redeemable before it’s too late. With 33 years now of presenting Mark Twain, and 15 years of radio before that, and 21 years now as a columnist, I would have 69 years of interrelated experience to draw upon were I to produce a podcast before I pop-off. PRESS RELEASE: 800 TAHOE BLVD, PET STATION LEASE AND BUILDING REMODEL

Pet Station Signs Lease at 800 Tahoe Blvd, Incline Village Pet Station, a full-service pet company with 13 locations around the Reno/Tahoe Region, has leased the 4,300sf first floor at 800 Tahoe Blvd, Incline Village, Nevada. Kidder Mathews’ commercial real estate brokers Mark Keyzers and Troy Keeney represented Pet Station owners Marshall Grattan and Philip Bankhead. Pet Station will share the 9,400 square foot retail building with the Village Ski Loft, North Lake Tahoe’s premier ski and bike shop since 1980. Plans are also being finalized for the inclusion of an ATM owned and operated by a major retail bank. Pet Station plans to move into the space in Spring 2022 following completion of improvements to the space, leaving the Raley’s Shopping Center where they have been for the past nine years. Located directly on State Route 28 which is both a state and National Scenic Byway, their new space will provide them a prominent corner location with improved retail visibility from over 10,000 vehicles passing on an average day. Following a design by Dock One Studio of Tiburon, CA, exterior remodeling of the property, owned by Tahoe Immo, is underway with new windows, doors, siding, lighting, and paint. Scott Dutcher, Tahoe Immo’s General Manager, expects the project to be completed by late 2021 under the supervision of general contractor Norman Ventures NV of Reno. Tahoe Immo manages six Incline Village properties, encompassing nearly 60,000 sf of retail and commercial space with 50 business tenants. For more information, visit tahoe-immo.com.

CELEBRATE SAFELY DURING THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY

First and foremost, as we all begin to prepare for the holidays, let’s take a moment to pause and give thanks. Thanks for our health, thanks for our families and friends and for celebrating special times with our loved ones.

As we spend more time in the kitchen with a lot of activity around meal preparations, remember to follow some simple safety tips so you can enjoy time with your loved ones and keep yourself and your family safe from fire.

According to NFPA, Thanksgiving is the leading day of the year for home fires involving cooking equipment. Take this opportunity to create activities that keep kids out of the kitchen – board games, puzzles, books can keep them busy and out of harm’s way. Here are some safety tips to think about leading up to this family holiday.

Stay in the kitchen when you are cooking on the stovetop so you can keep an eye on the food.
Stay in the home when cooking your turkey and check on it frequently.
Keep children away from the stove. The stove will be hot, and kids should stay 3 feet away.
Make sure kids stay away from hot food and liquids. The steam or splash from vegetables, gravy, or coffee could cause serious burns.
If you are considering using a turkey fryer, please do some additional research. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) discourages the use of these types of fryers for many reasons. Most of which, is the substantial amount of cooking oil used at high temperatures, pose a significant danger during the cooking process. Please refer to NFPA for more information.
Keep the floor clear so you do not trip over kids, toys, pocketbooks, or bags.
Keep knives out of the reach of children.
Be sure electric cords from an electric knife, coffee maker, plate warmer or mixer are not dangling off the counter within easy reach of a child.
Keep matches and utility lighters out of the reach of children.
Never leave children alone in a room with a lit candle.
Test your smoke alarms and make sure all are working properly.

A new citizen science project has been launched and organizations are seeking public help in submitting observations of rain, snow, and mixed precipitation.

During the winter, a few degrees can make all the difference between digging your car out of a snowbank and rushing rivers overtopping their banks. Why? Winter storms at near-freezing temperatures have notoriously fickle precipitation, with mixes of rain and snow. While the air temperature difference between the two may be slight, the real-world consequences can be huge.

A friend of mine, and popular columnist, whose name shall be kept a secret to protect the innocent, but rhymes with Pat Hickey, asked me yesterday if I believed in a life beyond. I felt like Jack Benny when confronted by a robber who demanded, “Your money or your life!” When Jack didn’t answer he repeated, “I said your money or your life!” After a pregnant pause Jack responded, “I’m thinking, I’m thinking!”

Welcome to the Tahoe Prosperity Center’s first Housing specific newsletter. Going forward this newsletter will provide housing information, updates, and ways you can support housing in the Tahoe region. The Tahoe Prosperity Center first began pulling partners together to address the housing crisis in 2018, with the South Shore Housing Tahoe Partnership. It spurred the creation of the South Shore Region Local Housing Needs and Opportunities Assessment and culminated in the South Shore Region Local Resident Housing Action Plan. The Action Plan was released in March, 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic began to take hold, and we feared that progress may be delayed. However, nothing could have been further from the truth. Virtually all of the partners on the South Shore have been making incredible progress, despite the unprecedented challenges we’ve faced in the last 18 months. A sampling of progress includes:

Policy changes for greater ADU adoption and hotel to housing conversions;

New housing developments for below market rate rental and ownership homes

Increased single room occupancy (SRO) units in the City’s program

A new sewer unit transfer program for affordable housing

"The IVGID Board of Trustees will meet via livestream at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov 10, to receive updates on the Mountain Golf Course Cart Path Replacement Project as well as the Effluent Pipeline project.

The board will discuss the continued need for work at the Mountain Course. This includes the debate during previous board meetings in regards of the correct path to take the project, which could potentially receive an additional service amendment to the professional services contract through Lumos and Associations in the amount of $44,500."
