Incline Education Fund wins Nevada government grant, bringing $17,684 to the Incline Elementary School Makerspace!

Incline Education Fund is proud to announce its' recent grant award from the Northwestern Nevada Regional STEM Network during round three of the Nevada Governor's Office of Science and Technology (OSIT) grant cycle.

The Regional STEM Networks..." identify and scale up high-quality STEM programs that will prepare students for Nevada’s 21st-century workforce. The goals of the three Regional STEM Networks are to:

* Increase the number and quality of formal and informal STEM-focused education programs in all communities in Nevada.
* Increase student awareness, interest, enrollment, and achievement in formal and informal STEM-focused education programs.
* Grow the number and depth of school-business-community STEM partnerships.
* Identify on-the-ground programmatic gaps or implementation challenges in need of a state-level solution.
* Grow interest, awareness, and achievement in STEM in the region.
* Carry out on-the-ground implementation of state-level programs/goals.
* Identify and build local programs and initiatives worthy of scaling statewide.
* Create and facilitate partnerships and the sharing of resources among K-12, higher education, and business/industry within the region."

Incline Elementary School makerspace equipment purchased with the OSIT grant funds are expected to begin arriving within the next month.

Nobility of character has fallen out of favor with us Americans. Our founding fathers had it, though they neglected to document the possession of it as an essential ingredient for election to office. I think it might better read, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of a noble character.” What better epitaph could one have on one’s headstone than, “He Was a Good Man,” or, “She Was a Good Woman,” or, “John Doe Was a Good Woman.”

Reno Rebuild Fund awards Sierra Mobile Storage with $28,000 loan.

RENO, Nev. – The Reno Rebuild Fund has awarded a $28,000 loan to the Sierra Mobile Storage company based in the Reno area, owned by two previous Incline Village locals.

Luke and Staci Stevenson realized there was a need for more storage in the Reno and Tahoe area that expanded past the conventional style of mini-storage. Together, the two created a temporary storage solution that allows customers to either bring a brand new, solid steel container to the site of their choice, or they can store their items with Sierra Mobile Storage on site.

“[Customers] know it’s secure, they know it’s weatherproof, rodent-proof, and that their belongings are safe and they don’t have to worry,” said Staci. “If they keep the container right at their home, then they have accessibility whenever they feel like it.”

The Reno Rebuild Fund is an organization that looks to help small businesses in the Reno area that need more capital in order to grow through the donation of five cents of everything sold at multiple locations around Reno, including Shim’s Surplus Supplies, Sports & Spirits, the Sierra Tap House, Ole Bridge Pub, and The Brewer’s Cabinet.

Each year, businesses are able to apply for the funds in order to grow, and in this case, the Stevenson’s intend to do just that.

TCF Invites you to meet our new Executive Director, Alyce Cady.

My name is Alyce Cady. I am a fellow TCF parent to 4-year-old twins Nixon and Juniper. We have loved and cherished Incline Village as our home for the last 4 years. I have served on the TCF board for two years and was most recently elected the board chair. It has been such a rewarding experience and I loved every minute of it. My husband Decker Cady is an attorney at Mountainside Law here in town. Our twins started preschool this year and we are thankful for the time we spent at TCF learning, growing, and playing. Our experience at TCF was instrumental in helping prepare the twins for preschool and the new endeavors our family has recently embarked on.

TCF has been our home away from home and I am very passionate about what it provides to children, families, and our community. I am honored to take on the role of TCF’s new Executive Director. I know I have big shoes to fill but I am excited and ready to begin this journey.

I earned my degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology, with a double minor in Human Development & Family Studies and Early Childhood Development, at the University of Nevada, Reno. After graduation and while living in San Diego, I spent many hours at Rady Children’s Hospital in their Speech Pathology department working with young children who had developmental delays and disabilities. This passion for children has been a constant in my life and I am excited to continue this at TCF.

I look forward to getting to know all of you that I have not had the pleasure of meeting yet and continuing and growing the relationships I have already gained during my time volunteering and parenting here. I would love to hear from any and all of you, so come say hello and please do not ever hesitate to reach out!

Weather and fuel conditions permitting, the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District anticipates pile burning beginning January 10th through the end of the month, in various locations throughout Incline Village, including the Lariat Circle area and near the Mountain Golf Course facilities.
Smoke resulting from the pile burns will affect the surrounding areas for approximately 48-72 hours. People that are smoke sensitive are advised to please stay inside and close their windows and doors as much as possible until the smoke dissipates.

We thank the community for your patience and understanding with the short-term smoke impacts, realizing that improving forest health and fire safety are the long-term benefits.

Time, to my mind, is merely music, if we can only hear it. It occurs to me that our lives are not played out over time, but are played out over melodies and harmonies that compose a swaying samba for instance, that might mature into a beautiful symphony. A 32 year old has been alive for just over one billion seconds, but more significantly, perhaps that 32 year old has been waltzing through life in three quarter time, spreading joy at every turn.

When we first meet a person we should not be asking ourselves, “How old do you suppose they are?” We should be asking ourselves, “What sorts of songs do you suppose they might be singing?”

Newport Beach firm set to begin work at Tahoe Biltmore.
EKN Development Group looks to turn East Shore property into ‘marquee destination’.
Changes are on the horizon along Lake Tahoe’s East Shore.

Newport Beach-based real estate firm EKN Development Group has recently acquired the Tahoe Biltmore Lodge & Casino and Beesley’s Cottages, both located in Crystal Bay.

In the coming months work will begin to demolish buildings at both sites in order to develop the property into a “branded marquee destination for both locals and visitors to Lake Tahoe’s vibrant North Shore,” according to an Oct. 7 press release.

Incline Village-Crystal Bay Constable Office to be Abolished.
INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – The first reading from the Washoe County Commissioners of the provision to abolish the office of the constable in Incline Village-Crystal Bay is scheduled at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at the commissioner’s meeting.

“The commission can determine that this position is no longer needed, considering the increased Sheriff’s Office presence in Incline Village,” said Washoe County Media and Communications Manager Bethany Drysdale. “The constable offices in the townships of Gerlach, Reno, Sparks, Verdi, and Wadsworth were abolished in 1998.”

Now, it is recommended by the Board to approve the further abolishment of the Incline Village-Crystal Bay constable.
