Last week, we announced that we have received a $1,500 grant from the Truckee Core Values Event Fund to support our fourth-annual Legacy Day at Donner Memorial State Park. Well, this week, we're excited to share that we received $29,500 in grant funding from Parks California’s Route to Parks program, supporting efforts to reduce transportation barriers and expand access to California’s state parks.

This year with the grant's support, Sierra State Parks Foundation and our local California State Parks will:

• Increase the capacity and safety of the Donner Memorial State Park's Paddling Tour Program

• Increase the capacity of Sugar Pine Point State Park's weekly kayak programs

• Reduce transportation costs and barriers for underserved communities locally and in nearby urban communities

When you geotag Sugar Pine Point State Park, Ed Z'berg pops up. Ever wonder who this mystery guy is?
He was a significant California Democratic politician (1926-1975) and environmental champion known for his extensive environmental legislation, particularly protecting Lake Tahoe.

Major accomplishments include:
🌲crafted legislation that established open space,
🐻funded state park acquisitions,
🪵created a workable system of state timber management,
🚙established off-road vehicle policies,
🤝and created the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, TRPA!

He was instrumental in creating state parks and preserving natural areas, embodying a commitment to public land. And now you know!

After a pause since 2020, TCPUD resumed in-person trail surveys in 2025, collecting 341 in-person responses and 194 online surveys from trail users like you. Survey results confirm that TCPUD trails are a beloved and widely used recreation and transportation for residents and visitors alike.

Here's what we learned:
• 98% of users rated their trail experience as Good or Excellent
• 96% say our trails greatly enhance their enjoyment of North Lake Tahoe
• E-bike use has grown with 55% of bike users reporting they now use e-bikes at least sometimes, up from just 11% in 2019
• 40% reporting using the trails in winter
Whether you bike, walk, jog, or commute on our 23-mile trail network, your input matters. These findings will guide future improvements to keep our trails safe, accessible, and exceptional for everyone.
