From curious chickarees and colorful Western Tanagers to our iconic black bears, Lake Tahoe’s local wildlife is an incredible part of what makes our region so unique.
Our Tahoe California State Parks are some of the best spots to experience these animals in their natural habitat!
When you're out exploring, remembering to respect wildlife from a safe distance keeps both you and our local species safe. A great trick to remember is the Rule of Thumb 👍-- Hold your arm straight out in front of you and give a thumbs-up. Close one eye and try to cover the animal with your thumb. If you can still see the animal around your thumb, you’re too close—take a few steps back!

Close encounters with Sheldon Lake Tahoe Balloons!
Sometimes the timing is right. We are doing a To Tahoe Flight and Sheldon is flying where we are going at the same time. Top photo is as close as we can get. Setup photo shows the Balloon "aircraft carrier", as I call it, in lower right, balloon is in sight with full moon above as we are communicating on the radio for the setup fly by. Thank you to everyone who joined us at PlumpJack Inn for our August North Tahoe Chamber Mixer! It was a beautiful afternoon on the upper pool patio with a great crowd, delicious food, plenty of conversation, and incredible live music from Will Apotheker. 🎶
We loved partnering with Sierra Community House and hearing from Shannon Falker and Allison Edwards about the meaningful work their team is doing to support individuals and families throughout North Lake Tahoe and Truckee. ❤️
And an extra fun addition to the afternoon, Kim’s parents were in town and got to join us! 😊

A small team of passionate quilters and community champions have been quietly working on something special for our community. ❤️
Led by local artists Heather River (Bespoke/Atelier) and Katie Townsend-Merino, they are sewing a quilt named “Common Thread”. Together, they’ve carefully stitched 160 individual blocks - called Flying Geese - representing migration, belonging, and the strength we find in community. When it’s complete, this 122 by 96 inch quilt will be large enough to wrap around an entire family. Even more importantly, it will help create security, shelter, and hope by raising funds for Sierra Community House.

Later this year we will showcase the quilt around town and the quilt will be raffled off, with every dollar going to Sierra Community House. Raffle tickets will be $5 each and available to purchase - please use the link below for tickets!
