The determination of California residency for personal income tax purposes is not an easy task. During our free forum, attorney Eric Coffill will share his expertise gained representing clients in state tax controversies and transactional issues for nearly 40 years. Eric will summarize the major principles of residency law in California, including the statutory scheme and administrative and judicial tests used to determine residency for purposes of personal income tax. Eric will also explore possible reasons, based on current laws and trends, which may contribute to the increasing challenges involving California residency. Kevin Hameister, CPA (California and Nevada) will share his 20 years of experience preparing part-year and non-resident California individual income tax returns and with the California residency audit process, gained from his and his firm’s experience in representing clients in residency audits over the years.
