3 Unconventional Activities to Enjoy Around Lake Tahoe

By Shanie Matthews | Tuesday, February 12, 2019

No matter what time of year you visit, Lake Tahoe is certain to impress. In the winter, the snowy wonderland is breathtaking. In the spring, the melting snow, arrival of new life and gentle breezes give a special quality to the air. In the summer, the perfect temperatures and plethora of ways to have fun make the heart smile. In the fall, the changing of the leaves on the aspen trees and the crisp kiss of the mountain air makes one happy to be alive.

But there is one other aspect that makes this area special: the local people. In appreciation of Valentine’s Day, I thought I would give a special shout out of love to some locals that are making life much better in Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe Flow Arts Studio
Tahoe Flow Arts Studio is a sanctuary for the soul. Giving the love of yoga, but taking it to a whole new level by adding dance and aerials, this is a place to allow expression in all of its beautiful forms. To help make that happen, Tahoe Flow Arts is hosting an exceptional five-week experience that will help your inner-self jump with joy as you soar in the present moment. Their 5-Week Aerial Fabric Basic Intensive is a series of classes that was created to help you feel the reality of flying as if you had your own wings. Teaching everything you need to know about aerials, the classes will focus on not only the poses that are executed using aerial fabric, but also how to implement a stunning and fluid movement of expression. There are three ways to enjoy the intensive. In the Tahoe Vista location, they are offering a session that is on Mondays from February 25 to April 1 and focuses on split fabric progression and climbing. Alternatively, on Saturdays from March 16 to April 14, the series will focus on climbs, knots and inversions. Their Truckee location will host a series on Wednesdays from February 27 to March 27 that teaches split fabric progression, inversions and climbing. The series costs $125, and there are no drop-ins allowed. There is no experience required, and all students are encouraged to join.

Tahoe Silicon Mountain
If you enjoy supporting those who truly are making a positive difference in a small community, then you must attend one of Tahoe Silicon Mountain’s events. A think tank of entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners as well as tech professionals and other professionals who live, frequently visit or own second homes in the Truckee-Tahoe region, Tahoe Silicon Mountain creates ways for people to engage in forward-thinking conversation in the form of two gatherings. Their Mountain Minds Monday is a monthly speaker series that is designed to educate and provide a container for networking. Each month they host a different speaker that delves into an aspect of the local community. They also host a First Friday at Five in which they provide a roundtable discussion that allows entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners to discuss, share and brainstorm. This is also a monthly affair that meets at 5 p.m.

Art Truckee
There is something absolutely special about enjoying the arts. Luckily for all of us in the basin, Art Truckee is making it simple to bring art into our lives with their smorgasbord of events. A business that excels in showcasing stunning visual and performing arts, their offering provides a level of sparkle that is often missing in many communities. For example, a few of their upcoming events include an improv troupe on February 23 and March 30, open mic night every third Friday and a drum circle every third Friday as well.

This is just a small sample of events happening around the lake. Please be sure to visit our Daytime and Nightlife sections to learn about other great ways to have fun.
