Early tourists visiting the Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park.
Event Description:

Wylder Resort Hope Valley continues its history series with “A Nice Place to Visit.” Using many rare photographs and extensive research, local author and historian David Woodruff examines the puzzling question, “How did a company, whose business was mining, processing and selling laundry soap, come to build a luxury hotel rivaling the finest of Europe, in a location with perhaps one of the least marketable names (Death Valley) imaginable?” The 50-minute program is free and open to the public, and will be presented inside at the Resort’s heated tent. Wylder’s Resort is the former Sorensons, located on CA Hwy 88, 1 mile east of the Hwy 88 & 89 junction in Hope Valley.
