Aiare Avalanche Level 1 Course
Event Description:
Learn the key elements of making sound decisions while traveling in avalanche terrain. This course follows the Avalanche Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) curriculum and is taught by AIARE Qualified Instructors.
What you'll learn
- Trip planning and preparation, interpretation of the avalanche bulletin, observational techniques for snowpack, weather, avalanches, terrain analysis, safe travel techniques, and decision-making fundamentals
- Learn the elements of companion avalanche rescue and practice using realistic scenarios
- Backcountry touring technique instruction provided inbounds at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows
- Knowledge and skills necessary for preparation of and safety in the backcountry
- Attain Level 1 certification upon successful completion
Requirements
- Intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, ages 13+
- Must have beacon, probe, shovel and touring equipment (not provided)
