COVID-19 left many people who work in restaurants and bars of Tahoe vulnerable, and the Caldor Fire has magnified their challenges significantly. Tahoe’s food and beverage industry workforce needs your help to make it through these disasters! Food and beverage industry workers of South Lake Tahoe and surrounding areas are among those currently unable to work due to threat of the Caldor Fire and the mandatory evacuations that occurred during the week of August 30th. We anticipate a slow transition back to normalcy once our community is able to return home and businesses are able to re-open.

Due to the Caldor Fire, Air Quality, and in respect to our neighbors in South Shore and beyond... it is with a heavy heart that we have decided to POSTPONE our Music on the Beach, Lights in the Sky event, which was scheduled for this Friday September 10, to a later date. This event was created with our amazing community in mind, but we also want to expand this event to include the entire Tahoe Basin, and to celebrate and acknowledge the resiliency that all our communities have shown not only from Covid, but also from the recent challenges related to the Caldor Fire. More so, we want to celebrate and thank our heroic firefighters and first responders who are protecting our communities and saving lives, structures, wildlife, and forests.

Wildfires are unfortunately displacing much of the wildlife in our area. Most times, displacing them into more populated areas. Until the animals can safely return to the wilderness, keep your home and pets safe with the STI Rex barking dog alarm. The STI Rex Barking Dog Alarm detects movement in a selected indoor location.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – With 4,224 personnel assigned to the Caldor Fire, many people are asking how they can help. Although firefighters and first responders greatly appreciate the generosity and kindness of donations, firefighting agencies are fully supplied with everything they need. Donations from the public are logistically complicated to accept and firefighting agencies do not have the capacity to do so.
If you would like to offer assistance to those affected by the Caldor Fire, donations are better directed towards evacuees. Here are funds that are helping victims of the Caldor Fire:
El Dorado Community Foundation – The El Dorado County Community Foundation set up a Caldor Fire Fund. All donations go to families and individuals impacted by the fire.

Project Camp – Project Camp is a trauma-informed pop-up day camp that supports children and families affected by disasters. They are enrolling children who were evacuated during the Caldor Fire and Dixie Fire, and are in need of volunteers.

El Dorado County Animal Services - Monetary donations to assist with the long-term care of small and large animals evacuated and sheltered due to the Caldor Fire can be provided via our Pet-Aid fund (please be sure to identify the donation as "Pet-Aid-Caldor Fire". I would not like to be the lowest paid player in any professional sport. I’m much too conceited. I once crowed like a dunghill rooster for a week after entering a Marine Corps R&R tournament in Vietnam and beating a Red Cross nurse in ping pong. So I have to wonder how Tyrone Swoopes felt when he became the lowest paid player in the 2019/20 National Football League. My heart went out to him and I only wished I could give him a hug and shed some tears down his back.

ALERTWildfire is a network of nearly 1,000 specialized camera installations used by first responders and volunteers to detect wildfires before they become too big. The cameras also support critical evacuation and firefighting efforts by relaying real-time information when it’s needed most.

We’re fundraising to enable the next decade of ALERTWildfire’s wildfire protection network through the Tahoe Prosperity Center, the official non-profit of the ALERTwildfire effort, and the organization that raised funds for the first camera network in Lake Tahoe that has helped stop over 100 wildfires since coming online.

We teamed up with Google employees who volunteered their time to help create this fundraising campaign. We also hope you will please share this campaign. The devastation we’ve seen already this summer, from the #CaldorFire, #DixieFire, and #Bootleg fire, shows just how vulnerable our communities are and why we need better protection.

Perhaps it’s time we recognize the world for what it is, one humongous ventilator, and we’re all on it. The air that we leave to our grandkids will determine their longevity.
