The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office has learned of closures put in place in forests surrounding Lake Tahoe due to fires.

In response to the proximity of the Caldor Fire, there are two important closures to be aware of:
• The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit has closed the Desolation Wilderness, Meiss Backcountry, Baker Pass Road and Blackwood Creek, and Pacific Crest Trail/Tahoe Rim Trail along the West Shore
• The USDA Forest Service is closing National Forests in Northern California STARTING AUGUST 22 - SEPTEMBER 6
THIS MEANS THAT THE TAHOE BASIN AND TAHOE NATIONAL FOREST SURROUNDING TRUCKEE WILL BE CLOSED LABOR DAY WEEKEND.
We know how many of our community members love our many outdoor recreation areas. Please be mindful of these closures, and above all — be safe.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detectives and MAIT investigators arrested Paul Valdez, 45, of Incline Village in connection with a hit-and-run crash which occurred in early July in Incline Village. Valdez self-surrendered in the arrest which occurred August 12, 2021.

Deputies were initially called to the scene located at the intersection of Alder Avenue and Village Boulevard the night of July 2, 2021. They found a 14-year-old boy in a ditch with injuries to his leg. Witnesses had said the boy was riding a bicycle on Village Boulevard when he was hit by the driver of a red Jeep Wrangler making a turn onto Alder Avenue. The driver of the Jeep got out, said something to the juvenile, then drove off.

Valdez is charged with one felony count of failing to stop at the scene of an accident which involved personal injury.

Air, Land and Sea traffic jam. Today on a flight “To the Lake” we got to witness the Celebrity Golf Tournament mayhem.
In the air, all the jet traffic coming into and out of the South Tahoe airport required a temporary tower and it was busy in the AIR.
We can see the of all the boats packed into the small section of beach along with a parasailer below to avoid. Busy on the water/Sea.
Finally, the beach was packed with people watching the Golf tournament plus we could see the traffic and parking looked full. Land was packed.
