Cross-Country Skiing Returns to Nevada – In Our Backyard! Some years ago, IVGID groomed Nordic ski trails in the high country up in the Old Mt. Rose Highway-Chickadee Ridge area just a few miles outside Incline Village. When that ceased to be, only the most advanced Nordic skiers or most intrepid snowshoers could enjoy the delights – and workout! -- of skiing in our beautiful winter forests.

Until now. A coalition of snowshoers, fat tire bike riders, and Nordic skiers banded together to form Nevada Nordic (NN), a 501c3 non-profit organization, dedicated to opening the pleasures of our local winter wonderland to more than just a few hardy and experienced skiers.

Holiday Gift Wrapping Station! Need a quiet place to wrap your gifts? Bring your gifts and use our space and supplies! We've got you covered with wrapping paper, scissors, tape, bows, and tags. Or bring your own! No need to register for this event, just drop in during the library's open hours - Wednesday or Thursday from 10-6.

Our annual 'Ski for Families' Fundraiser is back! Vail resorts and Northstar have donated all day lift tickets through an EpicPromise Grant to support children and families in North Lake Tahoe/Truckee communities. 100% of all proceeds of ticket sales supports our mission: to connect and empower our community through hunger relief, crisis intervention, family strengthening, and legal services.

Tickets are valid at ANY domestic Vail-operated ski resort including Northstar, Heavenly, Kirkwood in Lake Tahoe, and, Vail, Breckenridge, Beaver Creek, Keystone, Park City, Afton Alp, Mt. Brighton, and Wilmot.

NO restrictions or blackout dates. Ski Christmas, New Year's, Presidents Day or MLK.

Tickets are $149. Save up to 30% on same day, single ticket resort fees. Your purchase of a ticket is considered a donation and no refunds will be considered. Please allow up to 48 hours to process during normal business hours. Tickets purchased over the weekend will be processed the next business day.

Deputy Scout is in Incline Village where several feet of snow are forecast to hit with this incoming storm. Deputy Scout is excited that it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, but he also wants every driver to be safe behind the wheel. Here are a few driving tips from the experts in the North Pole:
• Clear your windshield, windows, and vehicle roof of ice and snow.
• Provide yourself more time to get to your destination.
• Accelerate and decelerate slowly.
• Don’t tailgate – increase your following distance.

HONORING D.G. “GENO” MENCHETTI

Earlier this month, we had an opportunity to recognize the vast contributions of one of our founding board members with a community celebration and dedication of the D.G. “Geno” Menchetti Visitor Center dedication. On Monday, November 1st, the IVCBVB unveiled a new sign at the Visitor Center to rededicate the building named in Geno’s honor. Geno brought an incredible depth of knowledge, good judgment, and focused energy to the IVCBVB and to many other organizations that enrich our region. The D.G. “Geno” Menchetti Visitor Center provides constant recognition of his dedication and reminds all of us of the contributions that one dedicated person can make to a community.

OPENING DAY - THURSDAY, DECEMBER 16

Diamond Peak will be opening this Thursday, December 16th for the 2021-22 ski season and we are looking forward to seeing you on the slopes! We expect to open with top-to-bottom terrain and all services including rentals, limited lessons, and food and beverage options at Base Lodge Provisions and the Loft Bar. Terrain is still being assessed so plan on checking the Conditions Report Thursday morning to see what will be open. We received over three feet of snow this week and have been making snow but please use caution as early-season conditions and obstacles may exist, especially on ungroomed terrain. We will continue to make snow and expand terrain so keep checking our Conditions Report for updates.
