Truckee Fishing Report - June 10th 2025
The Truckee River is in prime shape for early June and flows remain elevated. Expect around 78 CFS out of Tahoe City, 350 CFS through Truckee, and around 1,050 CFS at Farad. These flows are about average for this time of year. Exercise caution while wading in areas with higher flows. The water is running clear with excellent visibility in the mornings and early evenings.
Water temps are holding steady in the mid 50s°F, creating ideal conditions for active trout, especially during midday bug activity.
Caddis hatches are coming off strong in the late afternoons, and Pale Morning Duns and Yellow Sallies are showing up late morning into early afternoon.
Indicator nymphing is a productive technique on the Truckee River, but tightline euro nymphing is gaining traction. Use large indicators and plenty of weight to get into the strike zone in faster currents. Tightlining is possible in select areas but can be limited by high flows in certain stretches. The dry fly action picks up in the afternoon and evenings. Streamers and crayfish patterns are also effective in deeper pockets during afternoons when trout are more aggressive.
Anglers are hooking up with a solid mix of rainbows and browns, including a few fish in the 14–22” range below Glenshire and near Hirschdale. Look for fish along seam lines, deeper riffles, and drop-offs—especially in areas where soft edges meet faster flows. Most bigger fish are caught on streamers right now.
