Truckee Fishing Report
Truckee River
Water Conditions
The main Truckee is flowing at 199 CFS in Tahoe City, 265 in downtown Truckee, and 736 CFS at Farad. The water is cold and swift this time of year, so wade with caution. Please remember that Trout Creek to Prosser Creek is fly only, catch and release.
Tips for the Week
Indicator nymphing has been the best technique with longer leaders of 10 or 11 feet. 4x to 5x tippet works well in the higher flows. Stonefly nymphs with a smaller nymph as your dropper are working well in the slower deeper areas of the river. The fish have not moved into the fast water yet.
Suggested Flies or Lures
Some suggested flies to try on the Truckee River right now Skwala stone nymph size 12, squirmy worms, hares ear nymph 16, micro baetis 18, rough water skwala adult size 12
Little Truckee River
Water Conditions
The Little Truckee River is flowing at 135 CFS between Stampede and Boca reservoirs. The road in has a small amount of snow on it, so four wheel drive is required. Conditions here are very fishy but please respect any spawning rainbows and don’t walk on the reds.
Tips for the Week
There is some dry fly action here, so act accordingly. If you nymph, fish a light rig with not a lot of weight and use small nymphs. Longer leaders help fool the picky fish here.
