Lake Tahoe Community College, LTCC Speaker Series: Dr. Albert Ponce
Event Description:

Join former Lake Tahoe Community College History & Political Science instructor Dr. Albert Ponce for a free and thought-provoking discussion about the history of racial ideas and their dehumanizing processes, Thursday June 14 at 12pm in LTCC's Student Center (located off the Main Building Commons). By focusing on the foundations of Western theorists and policy makers, Dr. Ponce will illustrate how racialization developed the contours of human hierarchies both historically and into the present in his lecture, "White Supremacy and the Alt-Right."

While democracy and equality have been at the forefront of the American story, its underside of racial exclusion remains a fact in our society. Can we ever reconcile this enduring history of exclusion? Or, should we begin to think of future alternatives that move us towards a more radical inclusivity that lives outside of narrow forms of racialized nationalisms?

These questions will center the discussion. Yet, these forms of analysis have drawn swift condemnation by organized sectors of society. These ‘alt-right’ forces have become very strategic in their attempt to disrupt institutions of higher education and silence critical knowledge production. Ready for more? Join us June 14!
