Event Description:

The Lake Tahoe Community College Foundation’s Speaker Spotlight Series continues on Friday, October 21 at 6 p.m. in the Duke Theatre (Fine Arts Building) when LTCC Earth Science instructor Scott Valentine presents, “How Geology Shaped California.” Valentine will share the captivating story of how earthquakes, volcanism, and geologic riches shaped our state and helped to create the world’s 6th largest economy.

Valentine began his career in the Lake Tahoe Basin 16 years ago working as a Restoration Hydrologist for the U.S. Forest Service. He is now the head of the Earth Sciences Department at LTCC, where he teaches a wide range of classes from Oceanography to the Geology of National Parks. He also serves as a Parks and Recreation Commissioner for the City of South Lake Tahoe.

The LTCC Foundation’s Speaker Spotlight Series brings faculty and academic experts from LTCC and other colleges and universities to South Lake Tahoe to share their knowledge and experiences with local students and the community.
