Event Description: 

Lake Tahoe Community College invites you to celebrate Black History Month with us! Explore the political, social and entrepreneurial contributions of African people to society both before and after the transatlantic slave trade began. With the help of our expert host, Dr. Abdimalik Buul, we’ll look at the historical genius that showcases black excellence from civilizations and from individuals living in them.

Dr. Buul is an award-winning professor, anti-racist activist, progressive practitioner, and emancipatory educator. He is an innovative and dynamic leader in San Diego and the state of California. He completed his bachelor’s and masters degrees from San Diego State University in Sociology and Multi-Cultural Counseling. He holds an Ed.D with an emphasis in  Educational Psychology from the University of Southern California. He is a professor and Transfer Center Director in the counseling department at San Diego City College. Dr. Buul is also a lecturer at SDSU where he teaches Restorative Practices and Conflict Transformation. He serves as a taskforce member on the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges Equity, Diversity and Action Committee.
