May Sparks Art Walk - Memories Night
May is Older Americans Month. Join us at Victorian Square in downtown Sparks on Thursday, May 19 from 5 – 7 p.m. for art and storytelling.
Professional artists will be making chalk ART from stories told to them by the public, focusing on an older generation. Northern Nevada Neighbor Network (N4) will facilitate conversations and dialogue and Sierra Arts bring their best artists.
The N4 village connects Northern Nevadans for inclusive, community-based services, volunteer opportunities, and affordable transportation. N4 does so much in our community and serving our seniors is just one.
At the ArtWalk, the N4 staff and volunteers will be facilitating conversations with artists who will then interpret the stories into art. Memories are fleeting like the chalk art but are worth celebrating.
Facilitators will help the public develop stories to be drawn using the following prompts:
- Tell me about a favorite food and why you love it.
- What was one of your best trips?
- What is one of your favorite books?
- What was your favorite part of your job?
- What song brings you back to the past?
- Tell me about a favorite pet.
- What is your favorite movie?
- Tell me about a favorite hobby.
- Tell me about your first car.
Cordillera International Film Festival will be sharing Schoolhouse Shorties: a delightful blend of award-winning short films that shine a light on wise old souls, including a selection from a local filmmaker, “Lost in Memories”, at the historic Glendale Schoolhouse.
Depot Gallery will host an Artist Reception with Recycled Propaganda – Las Vegas from 5 – 7 p.m.
Drop in at the Sparks Heritage Museum to make your own chalk ART on the tables upstairs.
