Many people come to the Tahoe-Truckee region to experience the very best of life at the lake, maximizing the sunny hours with hiking, biking, swimming, boating, golfing and relaxing on the pristine sandy shores. Summer is a time when long days offer ample time to do it all, and experience life here to the fullest.
Although the region seems to fall asleep after dark, there are plenty of options to experience Tahoe-Truckee once the sun goes down behind the peaks. Whether you’re seeking stargazing adventures, live music entertainment, delicious dining options or dancing, there’s something for everyone to enjoy during a Tahoe-Truckee evening.

Live Music and Entertainment
Summer in Tahoe is often synonymous with concerts and entertainment by the sparkling lakeshore. Many of these performances are free and family-friendly and feature some of the top names in the music and performing arts industries.
Every Sunday until September 6 (except July 5), Concerts at Commons Beach will be held in Tahoe City. This beloved free community event features local, regional and nationally recognized performers in genres ranging from bluegrass to jazz to rock. Bring a blanket, layers and your best dance moves!
In South Lake Tahoe, the Heavenly Village Concert Series is a free, family-friendly live music series featuring top regional and national performers. Lasting until September 16, these concerts will be held every Friday and Saturday (with the bonus of Sundays and Mondays over holidays.) Each show begins at 5:45 p.m.
If you want to enjoy an evening of entertainment set against the backdrop of one of Lake Tahoe’s most iconic beaches, head to Sand Harbor for the Shakespeare Festival, this year showcasing Macbeth and The Heart of Robin Hood. Arrive early to enjoy the beach, get an ideal seat and grab a bite to eat from Shakespeare’s Kitchen.
If classical, jazz and orchestra music are more your scene, you will love Classical Tahoe, held at the Ricardi Pavilion at the University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe. Set amongst the towering pines, just minutes from the lake, Classical Tahoe brings an immersive experience under the night stars, blending exceptional music with nature. Many performances sell out in advance, so I highly recommend reserving your seats early.
Mini Golf
Looking for family-friendly fun competition after sunset? Head to a miniature golf course, which is extra fun at night because everything is lit up. Challenge each other with exciting and creative obstacles, enjoy the fresh alpine air and even hit the arcade at various locations after for some nostalgic entertainment.
If you’re in North Lake Tahoe, head to Magic Carpet Golf in Carnelian Bay or Kings Beach Miniature Golf in the heart of Kings Beach. In South Lake, Magic Carpet Golf and Tipsy Putt are excellent options. For the 21 and over crowd, Tipsy Putt offers an evening of golf, games and drinks after 7 p.m.

Stargazing and Night Photography
On a clear night, the Tahoe-Truckee region lights up and offers free entertainment and adventure opportunities.
Away from city lights, you can find spectacular locations with no light pollution or crowds. Revel in the stillness and present moment as you gaze up at the seemingly endless amount of stars, constellations and Milky Way – and meteor showers if you’re lucky. On rare occasions, the northern lights have even made a colorful appearance, only captured through the long-exposure lens of a camera or phone.
Bring a blanket or chairs, layers, snacks and a tripod for your camera or phone to capture the night sky and identify constellations or practice your skills and compositions. Make sure to drive to a place that has little to no light pollution and try to go during the new moon or waxing crescent moon. Some spots that are easily accessible include Mount Rose and Emerald Bay, but you can find many others along the East Shore and above Donner Lake.

Sunset Cruises
Sunsets in the Tahoe-Truckee region are magical and watching the sky change from a vibrant blue to pastel hues of purples, oranges and pinks as the sun sets over the Sierra is a great way to end the day. If you’re looking to elevate that experience, try watching it on the lake from a boat.
Book cruises with Bleu Wave Cruises, Action Watersports, Lake Tahoe Cruises or M.S. Dixie II or have a look at our Boat Cruises section for other ideas.
Make sure to bring your camera and extra layers. Once the sun goes down, the temperatures can drastically drop!
