Renting Bikes in Lake Tahoe

By Shanie Matthews | Sunday, April 3, 2022

Biking is a phenomenal way to become intimate with all that Lake Tahoe offers. It allows you to feel the crisp, mountain air on your skin. It helps to connect you to the strength of your own body as you take on the Sierra Mountains. And, in my personal opinion, it is the best way to truly see the landscape of this amazing region. Not only can you go further than hiking allows you, but it offers the ability to get deeper into the mountains, offering the chance to immerse oneself in the serenity of a forest void of man.

Not to mention, Lake Tahoe is blessed with miles of paved bike trails that frame the azure water of Big Blue, making it simple to swim, picnic or just cruise around.

To help set you up with all you need to ride around Lake Tahoe, this blog post is dedicated to 11 bike rental companies in the basin that are here for your cycling enjoyment. Keep reading to learn more.

Anderson's Bicycle Rentals

South Lake Tahoe

Anderson's Bicycle Rentals is my absolute favorite place to rent bikes for friends and family when they are visiting. They are one of the longest-running bike rental shops in the area (they have been around since 1978) as well as one of the friendliest outfits you're going to find. Owned and operated by a local family, Anderson's is supremely located to take advantage of the miles of paved bike paths that surround Lake Tahoe, with the trails literally steps from the shop. To make it a breeze to find them, just set their address into your GPS or maps app.

South Shore Bikes

South Lake Tahoe

With three decades of service under its belt, South Shore Bikes is known for their dedication to the love of cycling as well as their customers. In fact, they are so known for their dedicated approach to bikes that they have been voted "Tahoe's Best Bike Shop" many years running. Offering all types of bikes for rent, they also offer pickup and drop-off service for your rental bike as well as replacement delivery wherever you are if the bike you are using breaks down on the trail.

Tahoe Bike Company

South Lake Tahoe

Acting as a full-service bike source for those in South Lake Tahoe, Tahoe Bike Company offers a full array of bikes for renting purposes. Including electric, surrey (or family), kids, cruisers, hybrid cycles and road bikes, they even offer trailers and special seats for your kid or pet. Tahoe Bike Company takes cycling needs seriously and offers pretty much anything you would need for biking. They also have the local knowledge to let you know the best places to ride.

Their rental fleet is full of full-suspension mountain bikes and tandem bikes as well as adult hybrid bikes and children's bikes. Considered to be the closest bike rental spot to Mount Tallac and the Tallac Historic Estates, it offers fun family adventure just around the corner.

Ecycleguy

South Lake Tahoe

Ecycleguy has all you need for enjoying a day out on an electric bike. Their fleet is available to riders 18 and older, with a helmet and bike lock included. They also offer overnight rental services, and if you like your bike so much you want to bring it home with you, they can make that happen, too!

They even offer wellness elixers and draft kombucha to get your ride started off right.

From bike rentals and gear to kids' trailers, they have a great supply of excellent cycling apparatus. For bike choices, they offer kids' bikes, comfort hybrid bikes, cruisers, mountain bikes and demo bikes.

South Lake Ebikes

South Lake Tahoe

A locally owned and operated business, South Lake Ebikes was created on the desire to offer ease and fun through the use of e-bikes. Knowing that e-bikes offer an easier and less physically demanding way to see more of Lake Tahoe, South Lake Ebikes chose to focus on offering only the best in e-bike rentals. In fact, they believe there isn't a better way to get to know beautiful Lake Tahoe than by e-bike.

The fleet of bikes outside of Truckee River Bikes is quite impressive.

Truckee River Bikes

Truckee

With its new name, Truckee River Bikes is making waves in the bike rental world. The shop is stacked full of rental bikes, including mountain, cruiser, e-bike, urban and comfort cycles, guaranteeing that their fleet is sure to have something for everyone. Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area

Tahoe City

Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area opens its trails to mountain biking in the summer, and the views are amazing. Tahoe XC, as its known, provides affordable mountain bike rentals for kids and adults, and their trailhead location makes it easy for you to “park and ride”. Their staff is knowledgeable and helpful, and they have all the gear you need for a day on the mountain.

Olympic Bike Shop

Tahoe City

The Olympic Bike Shop opened in 1973 and has been a longstanding favorite for many locals for decades. It might be because of their excellent selection or maybe it's because they have incredibly friendly service. Whatever the reason, Olympic Bike Shop deserves to be ranked up there as one of the best. Their knowledge of cycling in the area is second to none, making them a great resource for choosing the best bike route once you've rented your bike.

Village Ski Loft

Incline Village

Village Ski Loft has been outfitting visitors and residents on the north shore since 1973. They have one of the widest selections of bikes on the north shore, from beach cruisers to downhill mountain bikes, and they stock a full line of parts and accessories and have a variety of bikes to rent.

Flume Trail Mountain Bikes

Incline Village

The Flume Trail above Lake Tahoe is a mountain biking trail with a well-earned reputation. Flume Trail Mountain Bikes helps make the trail more accessible. Located at the end of the Flume Trail in Incline Village, they rent well-maintained and lightweight bikes and e-pedal assist mountain bikes. They offer a shuttle service to the start of the route for a one-way ride back to Incline Village as well as a Tahoe Rim Trail shuttle service on select days. Flume Trail Bikes also offers rental bikes and e-pedal assist bikes for the East Shore Paved Path along the shore of Lake Tahoe. It is a great way to get into Sand Harbor if the parking lot is full.

Vista Trail Bikes

Incline Village

Vista Trail Bikes is superbly situated to take in the splendor that can only be found on the east shore of Lake Tahoe. Offering electric comfort bikes and comfort cruisers, they also have bikes for kids as well as kid trailers. To make sure everyone stays safe, they also rent amenities such as helmets, bike locks and bike racks specific for e-bikes in addition to handlebar bags and bottle cages.

Top-of-the-line gear and bikes is what Tahoe Ebikes is all about.

The welcoming shop in Kings Beach is open for walk-ins. They also offer delivery options for their e-mountain bikes, with delivery to either your residence or the trailhead. At this time there is no delivery for their e-cruisers.
