Gratitude, Food, and Connection: How to Help the Community this Thanksgiving

By Kirsten Alexis | Thursday, November 13, 2025

With Thanksgiving around the corner, it’s important to think of how we can uplift and serve the community. The season of gratitude and thanks sparks a giving spirit, and the Tahoe-Truckee region has many resources to help feed families in need.

There is still time to donate food and sign up to volunteer to help feed and uplift families in the community and help them navigate through the holiday season with positivity and connection.

Below, I have curated a list of community programs and events for the Thanksgiving season. I hope your Thanksgiving is full of connection, gratitude and abundance!

Holiday Food Drive - FeedTahoe

This month the Marcella Foundation is hosting its first annual food drive with FeedTahoe, an innovative program dedicated to “rescuing” surplus food and redistributing it to the community members who need it most. To help make a difference, head to their website and fill out the form to be a donor. You will then be directed to collect your food donation kit and schedule a pickup time and date. It’s that easy! You can also sign up to be a volunteer and help bring food from local businesses to nonprofits, which will then be placed directly to a community member or household.
