This week for our Get to Know the Locals series, we have the pleasure of sitting down with Tim and Candice, the brilliant minds behind a truly extraordinary South Lake Tahoe spa experience, Tahoe Forest Baths. Rooted in a time-honored Japanese tradition, their spa offers an exclusive opportunity to immerse yourself in the therapeutic wonders of Japanese Cedar Enzyme Baths.

Timothy Walter, the co-owner and manager of Tahoe Forest Baths, is a wellness enthusiast and visionary entrepreneur. With his strong background in business and marketing, Tim has successfully transformed his passion for health and wellness into a thriving venture. He has meticulously crafted an environment that promotes relaxation and rejuvenation, ensuring that every aspect of the spa experience is finely tuned to perfection.

Alongside Tim, we have Candice Raynor, co-owner of Tahoe Forest Baths and a highly qualified national board-certified nurse practitioner. With her extensive experience in healthcare and passion for aesthetics, Candice brings a holistic approach to well-being. She is also the proud owner and provider at Purity Aesthetics, an aesthetic services center located under the same roof as Tahoe Forest Baths.

What is your favorite thing about living in Lake Tahoe?  The clean air and beautiful outdoors.

What’s your favorite season in Tahoe?  Fall.

What’s your favorite Lake Tahoe beach access? DL Bliss.

Do you have a favorite trail or area to access the mountains? Paradise Park Trail.

What do you do for fun?  Play adult league men's baseball for the Woodland Dirtbags.

Describe your perfect day off.   Driving to see my family in Yolo County.

Do you see more sunsets or sunrises? I'm an early riser, I love the golden hours of the day.  

What’s one thing you wish more Lake Tahoe visitors knew?   Japanese Cedar Baths at Tahoe Forest Baths.

Where do you go on vacation?  Montana and Wyoming.

For a celebratory dinner, would you rather order take-out, go out to eat or cook something at home? If you go out, where do you go?  I would hire the local private chef Anna Marie Greco and host a dinner at home.

What’s your favorite meal of the day, and where in Lake Tahoe would you get it?   Coffee at Clydes on Kingsbury.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?  Meeting new people and watching them respond to the therapy. 

Do you have any side hustles?  Repurposing cedar from our baths.

What’s your favorite way to unwind after a busy day?  Drink a Budweiser.

What’s one item on your bucket list?  Go back to Holland and see my baseball friends in Utrecht.

How long have you lived in Lake Tahoe?  20 years.

Where did you grow up and live before you came here? Danville, CA.

What inspired you to create a local business? My passion for beauty and wellness.

What’s your favorite Lake Tahoe town or village?  Christmas Valley.

What is your favorite thing about living in Lake Tahoe?  The beautiful outdoors.

What’s your favorite season in Tahoe?  Summer.

What’s your favorite Lake Tahoe beach access?  DL Bliss.

Do you have a favorite trail or area to access the mountains?  High Meadow Trail.

What do you do for fun?  Long distance running and playing with my adventurous 3-year-old boy.

Time with their son is a treasured pastime for both Candice and Tim.

Describe your perfect day off.  Shutting off my phone and taking a cedar enzyme bath.

Do you see more sunsets or sunrises? Sunsets.

What’s one thing you wish more Lake Tahoe visitors knew?  Tahoe Forest Baths.

Where do you go on vacation?  Tropical places where there is no snow.

What’s your favorite thing about your job? Educating people and making them feel good about themselves.

Do you have any side hustles?  I have two businesses now, so no time for a side hustle.

What’s your favorite way to unwind after a busy day?  Cuddling my son, Gavin, or having champagne. 

What’s one item on your bucket list?  Traveling the world with Tim.
