Here in the Tahoe-Truckee region, Earth Day isn’t just a day. It represents our way of life.
Earth Day is a celebration of our connection to the fragile landscape we call home. It’s a day to honor our beautiful planet and make intentional goals to conserve our lands for generations to enjoy. It’s a day to reflect on our choices and learn more about how we can make a positive impact.
Our landscapes aren’t just our backyard. They are the trails we explore, the lakes we swim in, the fresh air we breathe and the wildlife we share our home with. They are woven into the fabric of our life and serve as reminders that we are connected to something bigger than ourselves.
The landscapes call for adventure and also ask us for conservation and stewardship. They call for leadership. They ask us to explore but to leave no trace. To make memories and leave others inspired with our stories. They ask us to stay present but to think long-term.
Earth Day is a celebration and a call to action. Here in Tahoe-Truckee, we have a community where passion for conservation runs deep. Community members, nonprofits like Keep Tahoe Blue and Tahoe Fund, and small businesses are committed to ensuring that these lands are preserved so future generations can feel the same sense of wonder, freedom, awe and belonging that we get the honor of experiencing today.
Below, I have outlined local Earth Day events and celebrations around the region.

Tahoe City Earth Day Cleanup and High Elevation Gardening
Community members and visitors of all ages are invited to celebrate Earth Day with a cleanup in Tahoe City on April 22. Hosted by Keep Tahoe Blue, in partnership with Tahoe City Downtown Association and CA 89, this special event encourages participants to get involved in the community and protect our fragile ecosystem.
Volunteers will meet at the CA 89 store in Tahoe City and pick up litter around town after gathering cleanup supplies and meeting other members. There will be refreshments and fun giveaways, including tickets to locally loved events such as the Tahoe City Food and Wine Classic and Oktoberfest.
Alongside the cleanup, UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center will be hosting its first High Elevation Gardening event, which will showcase varieties of plants and gardening strategies for successful growth in our environment. Participants can pick up starter plants and meet other gardening enthusiasts here.
Volunteers are encouraged to carpool to ease traffic and parking congestion as well as bring a reusable water bottle, sunscreen and layers.

If you can't attend these events, you can always celebrate Earth Day in your own special way. I highly encourage you to get outside and visit your favorite beach or trail and maybe pick up some trash along the way. Every little action we take adds up!
