Sierra College, Tahoe-Truckee, Sierra College Insighst presents The Art and Science of Architecture
Event Description:

Sierra College Insights presents architect Todd Gordon Mather.

To survive, man needs food, water and shelter. From this root, delicious food and artisanal waters have sustained the artistic side of sustenance. Architecture, with its origins in a cold damp cave, has also developed into nearly unimaginative structures.  Beginning with a quick overview of how architecture has morphed since the Dawn of Man, Mather will then focus on current regional thought.

Dwelling in sometimes fierce climates, as found in Northern California, requires a well-thought approach to architecture. Regional, national and international architects are creating buildings that respond artistically and scientifically to those Sierra Nevadans that inhabit them. Their design approach shows us how ‘dwelling’ is both a noun and a verb. Mather will discuss the successes and failures of regional architecture and the theories behind them.
