History & Hollywood: The Good, Bad and Ugly
Event Description:
Dating back to the earliest days of cinema, historical adaptation has been one of Hollywood's favorite genres. For just as long, historians and filmmakers have also debated the accuracy of historical events as depicted in film. Often times, the way that filmmakers portray a certain historical era says as much about our current culture as it does about the past. Professor Tiraterra will show clips of famous films such as "Gone With the Wind," "Platoon," "Kingdom of Heaven," "Braveheart," and others and we will have discussions about the accuracy of events presented in these films and their subsequent impact upon American culture.
