DON’T FORGET TO PINCH THOSE BARBS, PLEASE PRACTICE CATCH and RELEASE!

NOTE FOR THE WEEK: As we move into the low flow season and fishing gets tough in moving waters most of us find that lakes are a perfect getaway from the usual scene.  Lakes such as Milton, Independence and smaller backcountry lakes within hiking distance can prove quite productive for the seasoned angler.  Midges in the mornings giving way to emerging Callibaetis throughout the breezy afternoons to finally adult Callibaetis and midges in the evenings.  Remember that next year Weber Lake opens to the public and another fantastic Stillwater becomes available.  Thank the Land Trust and Nature Conservancy for this.  For those you have the bills, Sawmill lake is an astounding private Stillwater fishery run by Victor’s boys Tahoe Flyfishing in South Lake.

TRUCKEE RIVER: Trout Creek to Stateline barbless Flies and lures only. NO BAIT! NO SCENTED LURES! CATCH & RELEASE ONLY PLEASE! 1000 FT BELOW TAHOE CITY TO TROUT CREEK IS CLOSED!  GENERAL REG SECTION IS NOW OPEN!

Flows: Tahoe City 1.6! CFS Truckee (BELOW DONNER CREEK) 129.5 CFS, Below Martis Creek (Glenshire) 135 CFS! Below Prosser Creek 185 CFS, Boca 238 CFS, Farad 259 CFS-water temps: 64-66 MORNINGS 70-73 AROUND 4PM in the lower flow areas.

BIG TRUCKEE: Decent flows through Glenshire to Boca outflow and good flows and better temps from Boca to Stateline.  With the current flows concentrate your efforts in the deeper pools in the AM, move into the faster seams and riffles into the afternoon and then back into the pools in the evening when trout are feeding on the surface for Yellow Sallies, Caddis, and PED's.  From Glenshire stretch down to Boca outflow flows are low and trout will be selective but this area will be good to throw dropper rigs.  From Boca downstream to Stateline flows are good and fish here will be more accessible to anglers.  Some very nice trout have been caught and released over the past week!  Streamers have been effective in Sculpin imitations, Golden Stones, all stages of Caddis, Little Yellow Stoneflies, sporadic hatches PMD's, and sporadic BWO/Baetis in the beginning stages.   Don't discount Crayfish patterns as these can be effective also with temps being up, they're in molt now and are an easy target for large trout!  On another note let’s all remember proper ethics and C&R techniques as the water temps have risen.  Let’s not play trout to exhaustion and handle minimally or not at all. Remember, there will be days where you'll do great and the next you'll get your you know what handed to you, it's the Truckee.  To learn the river exponentially, hire one of our local guides.  It's worth the money if you fish this occasionally or want to learn it's secrets!  Great list of local guides on bottom of page.
