Lakes Fishing Report - July 21st
Donner Lake has been stocked since the July 4th holiday and shore anglers are still finding good success on the west end of the lake. Jigging for Macks has been popular lately and Kokanee are still biting in the China Cove area. Anglers still trolling for Macks can find them around 60 feet in depth. Anglers top-lining for rainbows should try rapalas, kastmasters, and flashers with worms. Donner Lake is currently at 96% capacity.
Boca reservoir is starting to fill back up after months of dam construction. Shore fishing is great right now by the Little Truckee inlet side where the area remains steady for trout. Anybody fishing moving water needs to use barbless hooks and it is catch and release. Anglers should use kastmasters, panther martins, rapalas, or worms off the bottom for bait. Boca is currently at 40% capacity.
Now that the boat ramp traffic has picked up at Stampede Reservoir, anglers should avoid fishing too close to the ramp. Anglers should be trolling around 60 to 80 feet in depth for the best Kokanee. Try using pink dodgers, pink hoochies, and wedding rings. The water levels are low in the inlet areas so shore anglers should continue to focus on fishing near the dam for any trout or bass. Shore anglers should try powerbait, worms off the bottom, kastmasters, or rapalas. Stampede reservoir level is currently at 61% capacity.
PROSSER CREEK RESERVOIR
Prosser Creek Reservoir is fishing great near the dam. Shore anglers are reporting good size trout and bass right now. Anglers using float tubes should fish with sinking lines and leech patterns, midges, or small streamers. Some good gear options from shore are to try panther martins, rapalas, or blue fox spinners. Prosser Creek Reservoir is currently at 76% capacity.
JACKSON MEADOWS RESERVOIR
Jackson Meadows Reservoir remains better for anglers in the morning and evenings. Trolling for the best trout is around 20-30 feet in depth. Anybody shore fishing should try powerbait, worms, small lures, or kastmasters. The Jackson Meadows reservoir is at 88% capacity.
Closed for the season due to COVID-19.
