The El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency is pleased to present a free Aging & Caregiver Series in SLT. The six-week educational series will be held on Mondays beginning April 15, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The series will provide instruction and support for people who care for, or plan to care for, a family member or friend aged 60 years or older. 

Free Aging and Caregiver Educational Series Coming to South Lake Tahoe

 

The El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, Family Caregiver Support Program (FCSP) is pleased to present a free Aging & Caregiver educational series in South Lake Tahoe. The six-week educational series will be held on Mondays beginning April 15, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, 4130 Lake Tahoe Blvd in South Lake Tahoe.

 

The series will provide instruction and support for people who care for, or plan to care for, a family member or friend aged 60 years or older. Series topics include:

 

  • April 15, 2019 - Music and Memory: This workshop will explore the connection between music and memory, and how listening to music can revitalize individuals with dementia.
  • April 22, 2019 - Hospice, Palliative Care and Grief: Join us as we navigate through the stages of grief, and briefly discuss Hospice and Palliative Care.
  • April 29, 2019 - Healthy Habits for your Brain and Body: Learn lifestyle habits that can help keep your body and brain healthy, and potentially reduce cognitive decline.
  • May 6, 2019 - Welcome to Planet Alzheimer's: Learn how to communicate with someone with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia.
  • May 13, 2019 - Navigating Through the Medi-Cal Long Term Care Matrix: Learn about the eligibility and application process of Medi-Cal Long Term Care.
  • May 20, 2019 - Common Scams/Preventing Elder Abuse: Learn to recognize scams towards older adults and how to prevent your loved one from becoming a victim.

 

Participants of the educational series may attend one or all of the classes. The classes are free of charge, although donations are accepted. The classes will be given by local subject matter experts as an educational opportunity only; no solicitation of services will be presented. Advanced registration is requested, but not required. The educational series is provided by the El Dorado County FCSP, and In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Public Authority, in partnership with El Dorado County Income Support, Senior Legal Services, and the Northern California and Northern Nevada Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
